Virgin America plans to bring on-board entertainment up to speed with the rate of how ground-based technology is advancing by launching a new Android-powered entertainment platform.
The company is rolling out a beta release of the Red platform, offering users a multi-touch screen and Android experience. From playing the likes of Pac-Man to sitting through episodes and films from Netflix, it’s a platform that offers up-to-date means to consume content. It’s an ideal solution for both short and long-haul flights.
The new screens offer 720p quality, as well as surround sound support. Virgin will also provide more interactive mapping with an enhanced interface. Unfortunately, you’ll have to play your cards right to be able to test the new systems out as only three airplanes will have the new Red technology this month.
Virgin expects to has 18 aircraft upgraded by the end of 2015, with the entire fleet fitted out in 2016.
