Amazon is giving app makers an early look at the company’s next operating system update with the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview.
Amazon will likely launch some new versions of its Fire HD tablets later this year, and it’s already preparing for that day with the release of the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview. This release is for app creators who own the 2014 versions of the Amazon Fire HD 6 or Fire HD 7 tablets. In fact, Amazon is giving developers who don’t own a Fire tablet a way to get $ 50 off a Fire HD 7 model.
Fire OS 5 is based on Android Lollipop. Amazon says:
And because Fire OS 5 is based on Android Lollipop, we can make this update while preserving even more compatibility with existing Android apps than ever before. This means that even more of your apps should work on Fire devices with no additional engineering effort.”
Developers can get all the information they need to access the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview at the link below.
