Motorola has expanded the Android 5.1 soak test for the 2013 and 2014 Moto X to a ton of new countries, with a full rollout expected next week.
It feels like it’s been a long journey for Moto X owners waiting on an upgrade to Android 5.1, but that journey may be close to its end. Motorola’s David Schuster took to Google Plus once again to provide an update on the company’s progress, noting that it has expanded the current soak test on both Moto X generations to a ton of new countries, with a full rollout slated to begin next week.
From Schuster:
We started soak test today for Moto X (2nd Gen) for the following retail channels: Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Singapore and Sweden
We started soak test today for Moto X (1st Gen) for the following retail channels: Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates.
If all goes well we would expect full deployments to start next week.
The wait for Android 5.1 has been a long one, for sure, but Motorola has been good about providing information about the status of soak tests and deployment plans so far. Just a week ago, Schuster clued users in on the rollout of a soak test in the U.S. and Brazil, and now that soak test has been expanded quite a bit. Barring any major unforseen issues, it looks like owners of both the 2013 and 2014 Moto X should have an update to look forward to in the near future.
