Hands-on with the Verizon Sony Xperia Z4v

Verizon gets the Sony Xperia Z4v later this summer — here’s your first look!

Sony Xperia Z4v

Verizon recently announced the next Sony device to enter its lineup, the Xperia Z4v, and on paper the device looks like it can compete. What is on paper and what happens in the hand are two totally different things, and we got to spend a little bit of hands-on time with the phone these evening in New York City to see what it had to offer. Being as the phone is not yet available, the hardware and software we got to check out was pre-release, but it will still give us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

If you have seen a Sony phone before, you will immediately recognize that the Z4v follows all of the usual design cues. With the large glass slab on the front and back, and the metal housing holding it all together, it feels great in the hand. Like any phone that packs that much glass, the Z4v is a fingerprint magnet, especially the black variant. Sony opted to put the Snapdragon 810 in here, and the software flows wonderfully. The 5.2-inch display is crystal clear, though rather reflective in the bright situation we were in.

As a whole, the Sony Xperia Z4v feels like a device that could be very appealing to many. While it doesn’t have a removable battery, because of the waterproofing, it does have a microSD card slot for additional memory. It will be interesting to see how the device does when it launches, and we will be giving it a full run down once it does.
