T-Mobile’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are now getting the Android 5.1.1 update, bringing several performance optimizations along with Guest Mode.
Although Guest Mode was available in AOSP builds of Android 5.0, Samsung did not include the feature in the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. The issue is now being rectified with the rollout of Android 5.1.1.
Guest Mode — as the name suggests — allows you to switch to a guest profile that prevents access to your data, including messages, photos, apps and settings. Once a guest session is finished and you switch back to your default account, all data that was stored during that session will be deleted. The feature is handy if you’re handing your device over to someone for a few minutes.
Other changes in Android 5.1.1, as noted by SamMobile, include a parallax effect for the backgrounds, fine-tuned camera controls through which you can drag the exposure filter up or down to change the settings, as well as tweaks to the user interface.
There’s no mention of the OTA update on T-Mobile’s website, which still lists Android 5.0.2 as the latest version. Members on our forums have confirmed that they’re receiving the update, so if you’re on T-Mobile, head into your device’s settings to check if an OTA is available for your handset. Based on the discussion in the forum, looks like the update comes in at 635MB.
