The latest numbers from Japanese market statistics firm BCN show that Samsung’s decision to remove its branding from the Galaxy S6 in the country is not yielding any results.
Samsung decided to remove its logo from the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in Japan, instead marketing the devices under the Galaxy branding. The move was to facilitate a favorable reception in the country, which is not one of Samsung’s main markets.
However, it looks like Samsung’s efforts were futile, as BCN’s survey of smartphone sales in the country for the week of April 27 to May 3 pegged the Galaxy S6 at 26th place. The Galaxy S6 was able to grab the 10th spot in terms of overall sales during its launch week, but demand for the handset has waned since.
The main reason for lackluster sales is attributed to the dominance of the iPhone in Japan, with six out of ten bestselling smartphones in the country being iPhones.
