Microsoft may be planning to replace its current Outlook.com email website and move all of its users over to Office 365, if a new report is correct. The process is rumored to happen sometime later in 2015.
According to The Verge, citing unnamed sources, Outlook.com users will be moved to Office 365’s Outlook Web Access and its UI and features. It added:
“The primary reason for the migration is to ensure Microsoft’s Outlook, Exchange, and Office 365 platforms are aligned, and that means adding the consumer Outlook.com service into this mix to keep everything consistent.”
This report comes a few days after Microsoft announced plans to give developers a way to make apps that will work across Outlook.com, Outlook on the desktop and Office 365. Microsoft first launched Outlook.com in July 2012 as a replacement for its Hotmail service.
