Microsoft has brought in a major game development leader to help the company create new titles for the Xbox, Windows and HoloLens platforms. Casey Hudson, who previously worked at BioWare in Canada, is making the move to Redmond, Washington as the new Creative Director at Microsoft Studios.
Hudson joined BioWare in 1999 as an artist and later became the Project Director for the developer’s acclaimed RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. His remaining years at BioWare were leading the team that created the Mass Effect trilogy of sci-fi action-RPG games. Hudson left BioWare in 2014.
In a Q&A with Xbox Wire, Hudson described his new role at Microsoft Studios:
“As Creative Director at Microsoft Studios, my primary focus will be the creative direction of HoloLens Experiences. I am extremely passionate about the potential of this kind of technology, as anyone who’s talked with me over the last couple of years can attest. I feel that the work being done at Microsoft on mixed reality and holographic computing will have a tremendous impact on how all of us interact with technology in the coming years. It’s an honor to be able to join such an incredibly talented team, and to work on something that will fundamentally advance the role computers play in our daily lives.”
Hudson will also be leading development of several unnamed Xbox One games and added he will be a “driving a creative focus for Xbox and Windows gaming.”
