If you were hoping someone would make a game that’s similar to the famed Castlevania series for the Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4, it looks like you will get your wish. Koji Igarashi, the former and long-time producer of the Castlevania game series at Konami, started a Kickstarter funding campaign today to help launch a spiritual successor, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The good news? The $ 500,000 goal to begin production of the game was met and exceeded in just a few hours.
Not only that, but it looks like the funding will also quickly exceed all of the game’s current stretch goals sometime later today, which include adding a second playable character, putting in a Nightmare game mode and adding voice actor David Hayter to the cast. But what is Bloodstained going to be about? Like the classic Castlevania games, it will be a fantasy-themed side-scroller action game with RPG and crafting elements. Here’s some more of what to expect:
“You are Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your skin. You must battle your way through a demon-filled castle summoned by Gebel, your old friend whose body has become more crystal than flesh.”
One interesting thing is people who donate $ 60 or more will get Bloodstained in a physical disc for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or PC versions. This is apparently the first time that Kickstarter has authorized a game project that includes physical game copies for the console versions. With 32 days still to go, it will be interesting to see what other strech goals will be added to the Bloodstained campaign.
