During today’s Build 2015 keynote address, Microsoft announced the preview launch of its .NET Core runtime for the first time to Mac and Linux software developers.
.NET core will also be available as an open source project on the Github website. This is just the latest example of how Microsoft, which was once against the idea of open source software, is offering more projects to that community. Microsoft should also offer the release candidate of the full .NET framework for Windows sometime later today.
